The K&N 69-6012TS Typhoon air intake system is a free-standing, mandrel-bent aluminum tube induction system designed to fit some Mazda Mazdaspeed3 models.
The restricted factory-fitted air filter and air filter box are replaced by a K&N Typhoon air intake, which is designed to dramatically reduce airflow restriction as it smooths and straightens the airflow. This allows the engine to inhale a larger amount of air than with the factory air intake. More air means more usable power and acceleration throughout the engine's RPM range.
The 69-6012TS air intake comes with a black rubber-topped K&N high-flow air filter and heat shield, which is installed in the original air filter box's location.
Air is directed through the intake pipe into the engine's turbo inlet for a guaranteed power gain. The pipe has a beautiful silver powder-coat finish that is made to last and accommodates the factory-fitted mass air sensor and a silicone crankcase ventilation hose replacement.
The oversized, conical air filter can be used for up to 160,000 km before servicing is necessary, depending on driving conditions and style.
The air intake is relatively easy to install, usually in under 90 minutes, if you use the existing mounting points. The necessary tools are a couple of screwdrivers, a ratchet set, and some wrenches.
